Trying to connect Marrakech and Fes without missing the good stuff
So I've got about 10 days in Morocco and I'm trying to figure out the logistics of getting from Marrakech up to Fes without just taking a boring direct bus or train that skips all the interesting landscape in between. I know the classic route goes through the desert but most of the tours I'm seeing are three or four days and I just don't have that much time to dedicate since I also want to see Chefchaouen and spend proper time in both cities. I stumbled on this 2 days tour from marrakech to fes that goes through the Atlas Mountains, stops at Ait Benhaddou, and does an overnight in the Dades Valley before continuing on to Fes the next day. It seems like a good compromise because I still get to see some of the kasbahs and mountain scenery without committing to a full desert expedition that would eat up half my trip. My only concern is whether two days feels too rushed with all that driving, like am I just going to be staring out the window the whole time without really experiencing anything? For anyone who's done a shorter transfer tour like this, did it feel worthwhile or would you have rather just taken the train and used the extra days for something else? Also curious if we actually stop and explore Ait Benhaddou properly or if it's more of a drive-by photo opportunity.
